Once a year, the legendary pastry houses of Italy set aside their daily routine and they create magic. From beginning to end, the process takes 2 full days. The panettone is said to have originated when the chef had no dessert on hand for an impromptu dinner party. A loaf of unbaked bread was reworked with a variety of candied fruits and chocolate, backed, then sprinkled with hazelnuts & powdered sugar. The guests were thrilled and a dessert was born!
